What's behind the numbers

The same engine that runs inside Divii.

This is a simplified front end on Divii's full support engine, the one that drafts support clauses into BC Separation Agreements.

1

Child support

The monthly table amount under the Federal Child Support Guidelines, from the paying parent's annual income and the number of children.

2

Spousal support

3

What can change the numbers

Special or extraordinary expenses, shared parenting, detailed income types, and entitlement itself all shape the final numbers.

4

Where you land

The spousal range is wide on purpose. Inside Divii, the full tool helps you work out where in the range your situation falls.

Where in the range you fall

The range is the start. Divii shows you where you land in it.

The spousal support range on this page runs from low to high, and the right number for your situation sits somewhere inside it. Divii's more specific tool works through taxes, special or extraordinary expenses, and the needs, means and circumstances of each of you, and gives you a sense of where in the range you fall. The decision you reach becomes the support clauses of your BC Separation Agreement.

Support calculator questions

How much is child support in BC? +
Child support in BC starts with the Federal Child Support Guidelines tables. The paying parent's annual Guidelines income, the province, and the number of children produce a monthly table amount. The calculator on this page shows you that amount from the incomes you enter.
How long does spousal support last in BC? +
The Spousal Support Advisory Guidelines produce a duration range alongside the amount range, based mainly on the length of the relationship and the ages involved. The ranges are advisory, and whether spousal support is owed at all is a legal question worth bringing to independent legal advice.
What age does child support end in BC? +
Child support is payable in BC until a child is 19 years old, but can continue longer where a child remains dependent because they're attending post-secondary or due to health reasons. The end of support is one of the terms a Separation Agreement sets out.
Is this calculator really free? +
Yes. The estimate on this page is free and requires no signup. The free estimator and Divii's full calculator run on the same calculation engine, so the math behind both is identical. The estimator assumes the simplest possible situation, with one salary each, table child support, and spousal support treated as automatic. Real separations are rarely that simple. The full calculator works with your actual circumstances, from self-employment and other income adjustments to daycare costs, government benefits, each person's budget after separation, and the questions that determine where in the spousal support range your situation genuinely falls. The estimate tells you the range. Divii helps you understand where you belong within it, and why.
Are these numbers legal advice? +
No. The calculator provides information and estimates, and the results depend on the accuracy and completeness of what you enter. Before signing a Separation Agreement, each spouse should get independent legal advice on the support terms.
